Confused how all the family is tied together? Don’t worry. The following cheat sheet should help. Of course, it excludes numerous uncles, aunt, nephews, nieces and cousins. Not to mention the meaning of the term “once removed”. But at least it might help explain the person sitting next to you at the table.
- Ernest and Olive (Perkins) Nicklos – Our common ancestor, and the ones who made this trip possible
- Charles and Jessie (McDowell) Nicklos – Applied the family shopsmithing expertise to the new oil fields of Petrolia. Moved family to Galacia. Then quit the business before WW1 and moved to Wisconsin before ultimately settling in Glendale, CA
- Jacob and Jennie (Jardine) Perkins – an oil Producer who moved to Galacia, Austria when the Ontario oil fields became depleted. Wiped out by WW1, Jacob died in Galacia. Jennie emigrated to the USA with the family
- Ernest and Charlotte (Zieryacks) Nicholas – Original German immigrants who first settled in Rochester NY. Charlotte died young. Ernest, a blacksmith, remarried and moved the family to London, Ontario
- James and Isabella (McLeod) McDowell – Immigrates from Scotland to London Ontario where they were both in the hotel business
- James and Mary (Vansickle) Perkins – an Ontario farmer who figured out the land was more valuable producing oil than growing crops, so he became an oil producer. Mary, very active in the local church, lived to the ripe old age of 96.
- John and Rachel (McKechnie) – Immigrated from Scotland to Flamboro Ontario. John, a cabinet maker, died young. Jennie remained in Ontario residing with her half-sister’s family.
